UPG Logo The Urban Playground

The UPG Team teaches wherever we perform, working with a huge range of participants. Our participant-performance project: “Micro-Choreographies” was commissioned by the Dublin Fringe and won an award from the Novi Sad INFANT International Theatre festival. It continues to tour. Creativity is at the centre of all our teaching, and participant-performances can be scaled up to full shows as in the case of TIME LAPS which formed the centre-piece of Newcastle’s official welcome to the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. The 2016 Strategic Tour STEAM LOCAL LINE will see participants create their own scenes for our show and perform on stage with us. Workshops extend from foundational techniques to CPD and Inset Training supported by discussions and practical demonstrations. Our teaching is inclusive with an emphasis on ability, not disability and we work with students of all ages, specialising in working with young people at-risk of social exclusion. The company co-directors are studying the (Level 6) Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning at the Laban Conservatoire, London. The UPG Team is an Arts Award Centre.
