UPG Logo The Urban Playground

The Urban Playground Team has a magical quality when it comes to engaging people in their work. No matter what the physical background, age or gender of a participant, there are no barriers for them to ‘play’ in a workshop with the Team. Perhaps it’s the philosophy of overcoming barriers, one of the fundamental principles of Parkour itself that transfers into the UPG Team’s workshops or perhaps it’s the high level facilitation skills they hold in encouraging individual’s journeys or groups of people to work together, or perhaps it’s both. What’s certain is that the UPG Team are able to inspire and delight audiences young and old with their physical athleticism and comedy timing. Their unique set of performance skills are as diverse as the places in which they perform. The company’s flexible approach, professionalism and ability to be ambitious and bold sets them apart and makes them a ‘must have’ for theatres and festivals alike.

I have had the privilege of working with the UPG Team on residencies with young people in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Portland, Dorset; in both instances their work was exciting, challenging, and dynamic. They are exceptional communicators, their site responsive parkour performances are innovative, compelling and awesome, young people are transformed by working with them: The UPG Team is truly inspirational. I must say it was a pleasure hosting the UPG Team in Kuwait. We had an amazing event, the people in Kuwait absolutely loved them! We also had excellent feedback from our partners LOYAC and the young Loyacers. I cannot forget the enthusiasm and commitment they demonstrated during the workshops. I really did not expect the young Loyacers to show up at every performance! This is phenomenal here! For most of them, this was a very unique experience and I am glad they took it very seriously. Thank you UPG Team very much for your professionalism and for being flexible, very practical and accommodating. It was a great success.

‘Watching the inspiring members of The Urban Playground encouraging young people of Srebrenica to leap, swirl and swing reminded me of what the linguist George Steiner said about teachers: 'the great ones are capable of leading their student to the doorstep of their own imagination’.
